Complete installation guide for the Twilight Trim permanent lighting system — from pre-install preparation through programming and final setup.
Installation Phases
Follow these five phases in order for a clean, professional Twilight Trim installation.
Order Components
- Reference your documented plan to order required components.
Prep Components
- Based on clients' desires, painting or powder coating may be required to aluminum mounting channels prior to installation.
- Confirm all ordered components have arrived and group components into each planned run comparing physical parts to documented plans.
Have Required Equipment Ready
- Know what safety and access equipment you need to bring to safely reach all planned install locations on the building. Ensure basic tools (and specialty tools, if applicable) and general install supplies are ready to go.
Schedule Install Dates with Client
Plan for Weather Delays
- Seasonal conditions may alter your install plan for safety reasons. Have a contingency plan for these delays and communicate what this alternate plan will be with your client in advance.
Recommended Installation Tools
- All required personal protective equipment for working at heights, using power tools and environmental conditions per OSHA standards.
- Appropriate ladders or equipment for accessing all installation areas.
- Small electric chop saw with 80 tooth blade for cutting backer and mounting channel.
- Zero clearance chop saw fence (can be made from scrap plywood material and nails or screws).
- DEWALT FLEXTORQ modular right angle attachment for screwing mounting channel to backer channel on non-visible side of channel.
- Powered screw driver with P2 bit for driving mounting screws.
- Powered drill with ¾" drill bit for wire passthrough holes.
- 25' Measuring tape and pencil for measuring and marking materials.
- Milwaukee GEN II 6" Diagonal Cutting Pliers for cutting backer or mounting channel to fold endcaps.
- Wiss 7-1/2 in. Titanium Coated Tradesman Utility Scissors for hand trimming backer or mounting channels.
- Fish tape for pulling wire through tight areas.
Recommended Install Supplies
- Sharp point, P2, ½" long lath screws for joining mounting channel to backer channel.
- Sharp point, P2, ¾" long lath screws (non-masonry) to mount backer channel or clips to building façade, or 1¼" T-25 Flat Head Tapcon screws for masonry installations.
- Weatherproof sealant to seal exterior penetrations (if applicable).
- ¾" Silicon wall grommets for exterior wall penetrations (if applicable).
- Touch up paint and foam brush for visible screw heads or scratches in painted mounting channel (if applicable).
Install Starting from the Controller
- Begin building each run segment starting at the controller lead cables and working towards the end of the run.
Calculate Spacing for Centered / Symmetrical Run Segments
- Center the total amount of dots in a segment for optimal visual spacing. Cutting the blank space between the dots mounting channels at the beginning or end of run segments may be required to ensure the first and last dots in the run are not poorly positioned against façade or structural element.
Cut and Install Backer Channel (If Applicable)
- Install backer channel first. Create folded endcaps or side wall cuts for wire pass through on 90-degree direction changes as needed per run segment.
- Creating a set of simple spacer blocks from scrap materials will aid in consistent mounting distance of the backer channel from the wall surface.
- It is recommended to screw backer channel every 18" on center to the mounting surface.
Cut, Install Dot Modules and Install Facer Channel
- Cut face mounting channel as you go based on total run segment length and adjusted dot centered spacing.
- Connect dot modules together and snap into mounting channel on the ground.
- Bring the preassembled unit up, connect to previous section cable and secure mounting channel to backer channel or using mounting channel clips with recommended screws.
- Creating a set of simple spacer blocks from scrap materials will aid in consistent mounting distance of the mounting channel from the wall surface.
- It is recommended to screw mounting channel to backer channel or place mounting clips every 18" on center.
Power-On Testing
- As you install segments of dots, it is recommended to periodically power on the run to ensure all previously installed segments are powering on and functioning as expected.
- This will help to identify and correct any issues prior to the run or project being completed.
Create or Pair to a Spectrum Account
- Create a new account or log into an existing Spektrum+ account to set up the controller.
Pair the Controller to the App
- Place the controller module into pairing mode using the supplied instructions and pair it to the App.
Setup Scenes and Automation in the App
- Select from preconfigured scenes, create your own custom scenes and set up automation all from the App.

Component Installation Order
Install components in sequence from the controller outward to the end of the run.
NEMA enclosed Twilight controller box
2 zones per controller box. Each zone has 2 output leads for identical zone signal/power outputs. 4 output leads total per controller box.

Enclosure has (2) 96w drivers and (2) output leads, one lead per driver, to be used in conjunction with T-Con cable.
** 330 dots total capacity, 165 per driver. 165 dots forward power injected + 165 dots backward power injected.
120v receptacle power source required for powering NEMA power injection box.

* If length of jumper cable exceeds 18', a signal booster is needed in line.

* Checking with factory if power injection is needed for long jumper cable runs due to potential voltage drop.
** Alternate power injection method possible without NEMA dual driver box if dot run is between 165 and 330 dots. In this case a standard 96w driver paired with a tail feed cable on the end of dot run can be added.

Safety First
All work at heights must comply with OSHA standards. Ensure appropriate PPE, fall protection, and access equipment are in use at all times. Communicate any safety plan changes with your client in advance.
